As well as hiring for a full time permanent Front of House and Social Media Assistant, we are also looking for a Front of House Assistant to cover weekends, on a casual zero hours contract.

Front of House Assistant - Weekends, Casual/Zero Hours 

Location: The Centre for Computing History, Cambridge, Coldham’s Lane, CB1 3EW 

Contract: Zero Hours/Flexible Working  

Working Pattern: Sat 09:20 – 17:20 with 30 minutes lunch break

Salary: National Minimum Wage / National Living Wage (dependent on age) 

 

About Us 

The Centre for Computing History is a vibrant and engaging museum dedicated to preserving the history of computing. Our museum allows visitors to explore how we went from a few computers the size of a room, to everyone having one in their pockets - in just 80 years! We offer hands-on exhibits, educational workshops, and special events for all ages. We are now seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Front of House Assistant. 

Role Overview 

This role is ideal for someone who is personable, reliable, and has an interest in technology. As part of the Front of House (FoH) team, you’ll be the first face our visitors see and support daily visitor operations at the weekend. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Greet and welcome visitors, delivering excellent customer service 
  • Process admission and shop sales using our till system 
  • Respond to visitor enquiries in person, by phone, and email 
  • Keep reception and shop areas tidy and welcoming 
  • Support the shop, Pac Lunch Café, group visits, and public events 

 

Person Specification 

Essential 

  • Friendly and approachable with strong customer service skills 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team 
  • Reliable, punctual, and organised 
  • Comfortable with technology and keen to learn more about computing history 
  • Must be located in commutable distance to Cambridge 

 

Desirable 

  • Experience working in a museum, visitor attraction, or retail environment 
  • Interest in computing, gaming, or digital heritage
