The Centre for Computing History brings the story of the digital age to life. Home to more than 40,000 objects, we're not a museum where exhibits sit behind glass – visitors can explore, interact with, and experience the technology that changed the world. 

Based in Cambridge, our work connects technology, culture, education, and public engagement. We inspire thousands of school pupils each year, preserve computing history for future generations, and welcome everyone - from intergenerational families to the engineers who built the machines we display.

Become a trustee, join a strategic working group, or volunteer with one of the UK's most distinctive museums. 

As a small independent charity, every trustee, working group member and volunteer makes a genuine difference. With a new Museum Director in post and strong foundations in place, we’re looking for people who want to help shape our next chapter. 

Whether you have professional expertise, specialist knowledge or simply enthusiasm and time to give, we'd love to hear from you. We particularly welcome applications from people whose backgrounds and perspectives are under-represented in museum and heritage governance. 

Roles available

Trustee and Company Director 

We’re looking to strengthen our Board with people who bring diverse perspectives, skills, and experience. 

Trustees are responsible for the charity's strategic direction, financial oversight and good governance. Board meetings are held quarterly, either in Cambridge or online, with preparation in advance and occasional engagement between meetings. Trustees are appointed for an initial four-year term (renewable), and receive a full induction and ongoing support. 

We're particularly interested in people with experience in one or more of the following areas: 

Trustees are volunteers. Expenses are reimbursed in line with our Volunteer Expenses Policy.  

Strategic Working Group Member 

Our working groups bring together trustees, staff, volunteers and external experts to help shape the museum's future. They're an opportunity to share ideas, solve problems and contribute specialist knowledge without taking on the legal responsibilities of trusteeship. 

Membership is voluntary, carries no legal liability, and typically involves just 3–4 meetings a year. We are open to welcoming volunteers who would like to contribute remotely.
