The Pace 56 Voice Modem was a multifunctional external dial-up modem offering 56 Kbps data transfer, fax, and voice messaging capabilities.

It connects to a computer via a standard serial port, and to a telephone line using an RJ-11 phone line interface.

In addition to providing standard internet access over telephone lines, the voice functionality allowed streaming of voice data in both directions to provide answerphone capabilities.

This modem is capable of identifying caller-ID from the BT phone network where the caller-ID information is sent before the first ring. In the US the caller-ID information is sent between the first and second rings.

At launch in 1997, the Pace 56 Voice external modem cost £199.
