The famicom is released in Japan
15th July 1983 Nintendos Family Computer (Famicom) was the best selling gaming console of its time and its American and European counterpart the NES helped to revitalise the US video game industry after the Video game crash of 1983. The Famicom and NES were the first to introduce the business model of offering 3rd party support from other companies to develop games. As of March 2014 Nintendo has reported sales of 61.91 million units worldwide alongside 500.01 million software units. It was succeeded by the Super Famicom or the SNES
