Asteroids is an arcade shooter released for the 2600 in 1981. It was the first Atari game to use a new bank switching technique to double the ROM available to programmers.
The result is as faithful a conversion as could be mustered on the hardware, with the player taking control of a craft that has to clear the screen of asteroids, no mean feat, with the amount of them on screen and the speed they move.
Occasionally enemy ships that fire bolts around the screen are introduced, adding a distracting element to hitting the dangerous rocks on screen.
