The Sony PSone was released on July 7, 2000 by Sony. It was a redesigned version of the original PlayStation, being smaller but otherwise compatible with all PlayStation games and accessories. It was the highest-selling console through the end of the year, even outselling Sony's own PlayStation 2. A total of 28 million PSOne consoles had been sold by the time it was discontinued in March 2005.
