Description :

Available only for 12 October 2017

Introduce your students to the life and work of the world’s first programmer in this fast-paced, dramatic all-day activity perfect for KS3 / KS4 girls. Our Ada Lovelace Day event encourages girls to engage with technology and STEM now and as a career.

Ada Lovelace wrote the world’s first complex algorithm in 1843 and was then written out of history until recently. Her story explains why everyone should get involved with computers to help create our future!

The day starts with a high impact performance in which Ada tells her story using an LED dress which she operates – live on stage – using her wearable tech satin glove.

After lunch, the girls will take part in a high speed workshop called Their Past, Our Present, Your Future where they will get to meet women from the pas,t who did amazing things in computing or STEM fields, as well as real women who are working in these fields today. Together they will think about how STEM will form part of their own futures.

Thanks to generous funding from ARM, we are able to offer this exciting opportunity to schools for FREE. (Maximum 90 female students.)

The day starts at 10am and finishes at 4pm. Note that students will need to stay for the whole day.

Please only book the exact number of tickets for your needs. Tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

This event is part of our October 2017 festival 'Computing History: Where did all the Women Go?  For the full line-up of events, see our hub page here.
