The Sims was released on 31st January 2000 and has since spawned three sequels and many, many expansion packs and ‘stuff’ kits - Not to mention spin-offs on other platforms, mobile games, and celebrity tie-ins!

The Sims was initially a spin-off of SimCity itself, and it became a groundbreaker for ‘sandbox’ games, with non-constraining goals and the ability to edit the environments.

By March 2002, The Sims had sold more than 6.3 million copies worldwide, overtaking Myst as the best-selling PC game in history at the time. As of October 2019, all The Sims games combined have generated lifetime sales of more than $5 billion.
