Apple floats on the stock market

On 12th December 1980, Apple floats on the NASDAQ stock market, selling 4.6 million shares at $22 each. All shares were sold almost immediately, and the stock price rose to $29 by the end of the day's trading.

Apple's IPO was the largest since the Ford Motor Company went public in 1956. Steve Jobs, the largest shareholder, made $217 million dollars. More than 40 Apple employees became instant millionaires thanks to their stock options.
