At the beginning of 1980, three people left Hewlett Packard to form Software Publishing Corporation (SPC). The three were Fred Gibbons, president; Janelle Bedke, chief operating officer; and me—John Page—vice president of engineering.

Born in London, England on September 21, 1944, John Page began working with computers as a teenager in London, and has continued to work in the computer field for over twenty years, his entire professional career.

In 1970, Page joined Hewlett-Packard. He provided technical support for HP for four years in London, Geneva, and other parts of Europe. In 1974 he moved to Cupertino, California, the headquarters of Hewlett-Packard, to manage worldwide technical support for the HP 3000 computer. Later, he moved into research and development in software, where he developed the Image Database Management System.
