The ASA CZ-1a "Pathfinder" calculator is an aviation computer which replaces the slide-rule calculator which would have been used previously. The user is able to calculate everything from True Airspeed and Mach Number, to Runway Crosswind Component, to Centre of Gravity, amongst others. The calculator's menu of 18 functions gives you access to 31 aviation calculations.

The CX-1a performs 14 conversion functions. These are reciprocal conversions for Nautical and Statute miles, Nautical miles and kilometres, feet and metres, Fahrenheit and Centigrade temperatures, gallons and litres, pounds and kilograms, and between time in an hours:minutes:seconds format and time in an hours/fraction format.

It also has a built-in timer which has options of counting either up or down. The "count-up" feature can be used to keep track of an elapsed time for the flight or to determine the time required to fly a known distance. The "count-down" mode can be used as a reminder to switch fuel tank or to determine the missed approach point on a non-precision instrument approach.

This calculator is believed to be from the mid-late 1980s but there are no dates marked on the calculator or instruction booklet to narrow it down.
