Sega releases the Game Gear

The Game Gear is an 8-bit handheld game console developed by Sega.

The Game Gear was based around an 8-bit Z80 processor with 8KB RAM. It had a colour 160 x 144 pixel LCD display and stereo sound via headphones (the Game Gear only had a mono speaker).

Launch games included Super Monaco GP, Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, and Psychic World.

Sega released the Game Gear in Japan on 6th October 1990, then North America and Europe in April 1992.
