Steve Jobs 1955 - 2011

Steve Jobs was one of the great tech pioneers of the personal computer industry. Singleminded, individual and possessing the courage, energy, determination and passion to pursue his vision, he was also blessed with the business acumen to recognise potential in alternatives and adept at foreseeing and setting trends.

He once said: "There's an old Wayne Gretzky quote that I love. 'I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been.' And we've always tried to do that at Apple. Since the very, very beginning. And we always will.” They did!

As the driving force behind Apple, Steve Jobs gave our culture definition. Dogged, charismatic, inspirational and intuitive, his death will leave a huge void at the heart of the company he co-founded. Perhaps fittingly, just last month Apple became the largest public company in the world by market capitalisation, and the largest technology company bar none in terms of revenue and profit.

However, a true measure of the influence of the man is the global impact of his death. We are left feeling that the world is a lesser place without him and, in terms of both technology and innovation, the conviction that there was so much more to come from Steve.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
