Celebrating 30 Years of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum

Well the weekend of the 8th September saw the Spectrum 30 event at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.

The event celebrated 30 years of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum with displays from private collectors and museums alike.

There was event the opportunity to buy retro ZX hardware and software including keyboard overlays to keep your vintage ZX Spectrum in top top working order.

There were several talks from individuals from computing history including Rick Dickinson, Chris Smith, Kevin Toms, Steven Goodwin and Jonathan Cauldwell and even a song from M.J. Hibbett with 'Hey Hey 16k'.

The event attracted visitors both locally and as far as Spain, Denmark, Slovenia and Germany which made the event all the much better for a bit of multi-cultural humor.

There was a fantastic display from Roelof Koning who brought along his collection of Russian clone Spectrums, a great display of ZX Spectrum peripherals from the Retro Computer Museum and display of early Sinclair Products and computers from us. Other highlights included a ZX Spectrum controlled Laser Harp!

We had the Sinclair C5 electric vehicle on display, but it wasn't long before attendees nicked it and and were driving it round the the hallways of Anglia Ruskin University! This video was shot shortly before they were told off by the security guards :-)

The two day event was great fun. We met a good number of really interesting people and thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed and fun weekend.

Thanks to Thomas of SinTech for organising the event.
