Volunteer Journalist

We do some amazing things here at the museum, but we're not very good at telling the world about it!

We really need someone that can write about what we do; our events, our education work, our collection and our preservation work. We need someone that understands what we do and the implications for our work.

We need someone that is willing to write well constructed articles and submit them for publication in the local press, national press, journals and magazines. They could be on a wide range of topics from how schools can benefit from visiting us, through why preservation of technology and software is important to the lighter side of our gaming and our family events. There is a lot to say :)

Of course, we are very happy to have your name against the articles.

Requirements

This role does require that you have a good understanding of what we do. Ideally we are looking for a published journalist who is willing to help us reach a wider demographic. However, if you're just starting out and want work for your portfolio, then we might just have a great opportunity to help us both! Obviously you must be able to write with authority, have good spelling and punctuation. If you can spot grammatical errors on this page, then you're probably the person for us! We would ask that you send examples of your work with your application email.

Come and Join the Team!

Our amazing team of volunteers have helped us achieve amazing things. We have grown very quickly over the past five years and it is in so small part thanks to our volunteers.

We are a relaxed and welcoming team. The working atmosphere is fun, relaxed but professional. Tea and coffee is available for free from our 'Pac Lunch Shop' and as a volunteer you are welcome to all of our special events for free.

Logistics

You can do this role from anywhere as long as you have an internet connection. Obviously you are welcome to come to the museum and work from there too if you're looking to experience what we do first hand.

Time

As an online role, you can do this anytime. If you'd like to work from the museum, we are open from Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, every week throughout the year.

How to Apply

As with all of our volunteer roles, if you are interested in volunteering your time and playing a vital part in our museum, email us with the name of the role you are applying for in the subject line. Please send us your CV or details about yourself along with examples of your work.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you ...
