Home > M3 - Michigan Micro Mote |
The Michigan Micro Mote, or M3 [3 in superscript], is the world's smallest computer, measuring as little as 2mm across.
It was developed around ARM's Cortex-M0 by researchers at the University of Michigan. The M3 acts as a smart sensing system, and depending on how it is configured can measure pressure, temperature or images, and collect and transmit data. It is built in seven or eight sandwich-like layers that contain a microprocessor, memory, built-in solar cells, battery, radio and sensors. It is extremely low powered, running on picowatts (a trillionth of a watt) using solar energy or even room light.
It was developed for use in a huge range of applications including health and medicine, as well as in agriculture, energy management, transportation and in many IoT devices.
