Rainbird published this version of the game, Firebird also produced one. Elite is the classic space trading combat title, and an early example of a sandbox game, in that the player can decide how they want to play it. Some would concentrate on the trading of goods between planets, while others would divert funds to increase the shields and weapons on the craft to take on the Space Pirates for their bounty. Mr Micro handled the 16 bit versions of Elite, and they look very good with shaded graphics and much improved sound, what is a let down is both the St and Amiga have very samey combat, in that the enemies attack with the same pattern every time, which makes them very easy to pick off.
