The Sportster 14,400 was an external fax and data modem designed for personal, home office, and small business use in the early 1990s.

Manufactured by U.S. Robotics, it supports 14,400 bps Group III fax and transmits data at 14,400 bps with V.42/MNP 2-4 error control and V.42 bis/MNP 5 data compression, for throughput up to 57,600 bps.

The Sportster allowed users to send and receive faxes directly from their computer, store delayed faxes, and maintain speed-dial phonebooks.

Features:

  • Supports V.17 Half duplex, V.29 9600 bps and V.27 4800 bps Group III fax machines and fax modems.
  • Compatible with 14,400, 12,000, 9600, 7200, 4800 and 2400 bps transmission/fallback.
  • Automatically negotiates between 2400, 1200, 300 bps data transmission, fully bidirectional.
  • Uses V.42/MNP2-4 error control.
  • Compatible with all CCITT standard V.32 bis, V.32, V.22 bis, V.22, V.21, Bell 212A, 103/212A, V.23, V.25 and Bell 103/212A.
  • Ensures data integrity with V.42/MNP 2-4 error control, and fast transmission with V.42 bis / MNP 5 data compression, for throughput up to 57,600 bps.
  • Supports the industry-standard AT command set.
