Intel introduces the 80286 microprocessor

On the 1st February 1982, Intel released its new microprocessor, the Intel 80286. Also known as the iAPX 286 or Intel 286, it is a 16-bit microprocessor containing 134,000 transistors.

The 80286 microprocessor was widely used in IBM PC compatible computers during the mid 1980s to early 1990s, starting with the IBM PC/AT in 1984.
