Bell Labs releases the first version of UNIX
3rd November 1971 Beginning in 1969, a team at Bell Labs including Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie developed the UNIX operating system. UNIX was the primary operating system for most high end computing machines in the following decades. On November 3rd 1971 Bell Labs released the first version of UNIX. Today, the legacy of UNIX lives on in the form of Linux, a family of open-source UNIX-like operating sytems, initially developed by Linus Torvalds. Related information: Image:
