The Displayphone, developed by Bell-Northern Research in Ottawa and manufactured by Northern Telecom, was an early attempt to integrate voice and data communication into a single desktop device. Its first model, the NT6K00, featured a 7-inch monochrome screen, speakerphone, 300 bps modem, and a retractable QWERTY keyboard stored in the base.

The unit supported two phone lines, enabling users to talk on the phone while accessing remote data services using the modem.

Key features included:

  • A 90-number directory
  • Hands-free and automatic dialling
  • Call hold and last number redial
  • A clock, call timer, and reminder notifications

Our Displayphone incudes an external power supply unit and was kindly donated by William McDowell.

The model number is NT6K80 AA with a serial number of 003164 and a date of December 1985.

Date : December 1985

Manufacturer : Nortel
