Appearing first on the Sega Saturn, it was a year later that this conversion appeared on the Sony machine, and sold in huge numbers. The game stars Lara Croft, who has been hired to recover the pieces of an ancient artifact known as the Scion. She is able to explore a ful 3D environment, and can athletically run, jump, swim and climb her way around various Tombs, temples, fighting off various creatures such as alligators, gorillas and even dinosaurs. Core Design, the creators used just a team of six to produce the game, work starting on the game a couple of days after the arrival of the Saturn development kit. Due to the massive success of the game, Sony were to do a deal, making the sequel console exclusive to them, with a PC version following soon after.
