Join us as a trustee – and help shape the future of The Centre for Computing History

Would you like to be part of a dynamic and innovative museum? Can you help us build our network of museum and heritage contacts and increase our board-level knowledge of how the heritage sector works?

In return we can help you build your experience of strategic planning, use your knowledge and experience to give something back to your community and to be part of the evolution of a relatively young museum.

CCH is an accredited museum based in Cambridge, England, with a growing visitor base and an established and successful learning programme. Our collection of computing artefacts is at the centre of all we do, and learning is at the heart of our objectives as a charity. We’re looking for people who can bring those two areas together in an exciting and compelling way to help us move forward as a museum. We have ambitious plans for the future because we believe that the people of the future will want and need to understand how we got to be a society that relies on computing, so we capture, preserve and help visitors learn from the social history of computing. We also believe that Cambridge plays a special role in the world of tech and need trustees who will act as ambassadors for the museum in the local area and beyond for the benefit of all stakeholders.

We are a registered charity operated as a company limited by guarantee. The board of directors of the company are also trustees of the charity. To help us grow we need knowledgeable members of the public to join our Board. We are particularly keen to recruit members of the local community with a strong interest in museums or a heritage background of some kind. Previous board experience and technical knowledge of computing are not required; a passion for museums and the role they play is and we’re also keen to hear from people who can help us use our collection to reflect on how computing has changed all our lives.

Trustees are not remunerated but reasonable expenses can be met. Trustees are appointed for a term of 4 years, extendable for up to 3 terms.

Time commitments: attend Board meetings (currently held monthly in Cambridge and/or via zoom) and on occasion to advocate for the museum at events and meetings. New trustees will be offered an induction process at the museum and support to grow into the trustee role.
