Education support

We are thrilled to be able to discount our Learning Programme for the Autumn Term 2024-25 thanks to corporate sponsors, Citrix and u-blox.

“Citrix is proud to enter into partnership with the Centre for Computing History, as part of our global corporate citizenship programme.

Getting children interested in STEM and the tech industry at a young age is one good way of taking steps to address the digital skills gap – as well as tackling the myth amongst young people and their parents that STEM topics are 'just for boys'. We think that the tech industry also has a responsibility to show all children why tech is fun - and foster interest and curiosity about all things digital."

Citrix Cambridge Vice President and Chief Technology Officer

This section will provide you with information about:

  • how sponsors are supporting your visit to The Centre for Computing History
  • how you can reduce the cost of your visit and how it is calculated

"Getting children involved in STEM is key for the future and we're proud to offer a unique learning experience that does exactly that."
Lisa McGerty, CEO

Reducing the cost of your visit

We know how much those that have visited us over the past few years have valued the workshops as part of their visit.  We also know just how much pressure there is to keep the costs of education visits as low as possible.

The support from sponsors will allow us to discount the cost of your visit by £2 per student whilst still enjoying our day visit programme that includes a workshop and other activities.  Please note that this applies only to UK students.

How is the discount arranged?

Schools and Colleges visiting The Centre for Computing History for a full Educational Visit as described on our website, are charged depending upon the size of the group of students that attend.

Our charges are in four bands:

Group size Number of students Recommended minimum visit time Charge Non-refundable Deposit
Small between 1 and 15 students 2 hrs 30mins £220 £100
Medium between 16 and 30 students 2 hrs 40mins £435 £100
Large between 31 and 45 students 3 hrs 40mins £650 £130
Extra Large between 46 and 60 students 4 hrs 50mins £870 £174

The charge to your School or College will be reduced by £2 for every student that attends the visit.

Here are some examples;

School 1 books a visit for 25 students,  placing them into the second band:  Medium 16-30 students.

The visit charge for this band is £435.  Non-refundable deposit of either 20% of the visit charge or £100, whichever is higher, will be required at the time of provisional booking.

20% of the visit charge = 0.2 x £435 = £87, which is lower than £100.

So, non-refundable deposit charge will be £100 (+VAT, where applicable).

Final invoice will state the charge to be:

School visit for Medium sized group: £435

Less Deposit amount: £100

Less discount:    25 students x £2 = £50

Invoice amount:  £285 (+VAT, where applicable)

College 2 books a visit for 50 students, placing them into the fourth band: Extra large 46-60 students.

The visit charge for this band is £870.  Non-refundable deposit of either 20% of the visit charge or £100, whichever is higher, will be required at the time of provisional booking.

20% of the visit charge = 0.2 x £870 = £174, which is higher than £100.

So, non-refundable deposit charge will be £174 (+VAT, where applicable).

Their invoice will state the charge to be:

School visit for an Extra Large sized group: £870

Less Deposit amount: £174

Less discount:    50 students x £2 = £100

Invoice amount:  £596 (+VAT, where applicable)

School 3 books a visit for 10 students,  placing them into the first band:  Small 1-15 students.

The visit charge for this band is £220.  Non-refundable deposit of either 20% of the visit charge or £100, whichever is higher, will be required at the time of provisional booking.

20% of the visit charge = 0.2 x £220 = £44, which is lower than £100.

So, non-refundable deposit charge will be £100 (+VAT, where applicable).

Their invoice will state the charge to be:

School visit for Small sized group: £220

Less Deposit amount: £100

Less discount:    10 students x £2 =  £20

Invoice amount: £100 (+VAT, as applicable)
