NeXT Computers

NeXT Software Inc. was founded in 1985 by Steve Jobs after he resigned from Apple Computer. Their computers were advanced but expensive and therefore not as commercially successful as other computers of the era. The NeXT operating system, NeXT Step, was based around Unix and in 1996 Apple Computer bought NeXT computers for $400 million and used the NeXT operating system as the basis for Mac OS X.
