University of Manchester Regional Computer Centre The new front-end service will be provided on a 12 Mbyte, 12 channel Amdahl 470/V7 which will be linked to the LCN (and via LCN to the various other mainframes at UMPCC) by two Control Data Network Access Devices (NADs). File storage will be provided by eight Memorex disc modules with a total capacity of about 10 Gbytes, and a MASSTOR mass storage device with a capacity of 55 Gbytes. This will result in an allocated filestore of about 21 Gbytes. Additionally, magnetic tape facilities will be available via four Msmorex 9-track 1600/6250 bpi tape decks. The main communications system will be provided via two Amdahl 4705 communications processors, with additional hardware to handle local terminals. Line printers and card input facilities are also provided.
