Apple launches the Apple 1
July 1976 When the 6502 processor was released in 1976, Steve Wozniak started designing a computer based around it. By March 1, 1976, Wozniak had completed his machine and demonstrated it at a Homebrew Computer Club meeting. Wozniak initially intended to share the design for free, but Steve Jobs convinced him they should go into business and sell the machine. The pair started Apple Computers, and Wozniak's machine became the Apple 1. The Apple 1 was sold through several small retailers, and included only the circuit board ; you had to build your own the case. The Apple 1 went on sale in July 1976 at a price of US$666.66.
