Donated by Paul Gee who developed the software, he kindly provided the following information.

Back in the 90s I was a registered Acorn developer for the Acorn Archimedes/RISC PC and wrote AppleFS in around 1993-1995. This was a file transfer utility which allowed the Archimedes/RISC PC to read/write and format Apple Macintosh discs.

The first version MacHFS was released as public domain on bulletin boards at the time and consequently I was approached by Oregon Software Developments, who asked me to release it under their brand in return for a royalty payment.

Computer Concepts Ltd were working on a similar product called MacFS and had already announced the title for their software. Unfortunately reusing the public domain title MacHFS was considered too similar, even though it was released first. Oregon Software Development decided to released it as AppleFS.

The software supported the transfer and translation of files from RISC OS to/from MacOS, allowing images, sound files and word processor to be shared between the platforms. With built-in text converters written by Darryl Sims, a work colleague of mine, it could extract and decode/encode text in the Rich Text Format on the fly.
